How to itemise Argus and, more importantly, why each item earns its slot.

Overview

Why this build works on Argus

Argus relies entirely on Basic Attacks to generate Malice Energy for his passive, Warmonger, which triggers a powerful Demonic Slash that ignores Physical Defense and restores HP. His second skill, Meteoric Sword, scales its cast delay down with Attack Speed, counts as Basic Attack damage, and doubles Malice Energy gain against cursed targets. Because his Ultimate, Eternal Evil, grants brief Death Immunity while converting damage dealt into HP, Argus does not need defensive stats early. Instead, this build maximizes Attack Speed, Movement Speed, and Critical Strikes to rapidly cycle Warmonger procs, unleash Meteoric Sword, and maximize damage output during Eternal Evil's invulnerability window.

Item by item

Swift Boots

Early

Swift Boots provide essential Attack Speed early in the laning phase on the EXP Lane. This extra speed helps Argus fill his Malice Energy bar faster through Warmonger, enabling more frequent Demonic Slash triggers. Additionally, the extra Movement Speed makes it easier to position Demonic Grip, chase enemies fleeing along the Cursed Trail from Meteoric Sword, and stay sticky during his ultimate, Eternal Evil.

Corrosion Scythe is a fundamental power spike for Argus. Its extra Attack Speed directly reduces the delay on Meteoric Sword and accelerates Malice Energy accumulation for Warmonger. Since Meteoric Sword applies Basic Attack effects, Corrosion Scythe applies extra damage and a stacking slow on every strike. This ensures Argus can relentlessly chase down targets using Demonic Grip and hold them down during Eternal Evil.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Corrosion: Basic Attacks gain 80 extra Physical Damage and slow the target by 8% (halved for ranged Basic Attacks) for 1.5s. Stacks up to 5 times.

Demon Hunter Sword synergizes flawlessly with Argus's kit. Its passive adds current health percentage damage to every Basic Attack, which applies during Meteoric Sword and Warmonger slashes. Paired with Warmonger's inherent defense penetration, Argus can shred tanky EXP laners. The rapid Attack Speed boost allows Argus to quickly fill his Malice Energy bar, turning him into a high-damage, unstoppable threat during Eternal Evil.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Devour: Basic Attacks deal 8% of the target's current HP as extra Physical Damage (capped at 60 against minions).

Berserker's Fury amplifies Argus's offensive power by enhancing critical strikes. Since Warmonger generates additional Malice Energy on critical strikes, this item dramatically increases the frequency of Demonic Slash activations. The extra Physical Attack gained upon landing a critical hit further empowers Meteoric Sword and Demonic Grip, ensuring Argus converts every second of invulnerability during Eternal Evil into massive burst damage and massive post-ultimate healing.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Doom: Critical strikes grant 5% extra Physical Attack for 2s.

Great Dragon Spear gives Argus late-game mobility and raw power. Upon activating Eternal Evil, Supreme Warrior provides a massive Movement Speed burst, allowing Argus to instantly close the gap on backline carry targets or stick to agile enemies. This seamless synergy with his ultimate ensures he cannot be easily kited while immune to death, maximizing damage output and subsequent HP conversion before the immunity expires.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Supreme Warrior: After casting an Ultimate, increase Movement Speed by 15% for 7.5s. This effect has a 15s cooldown.

Immortality

Situational

Immortality serves as a critical safety net during high-stakes late-game team fights around the Lord. If Argus is caught off guard or disabled before he can activate Eternal Evil, reviving gives him a second chance to cast his ultimate and regain full HP. This prevents him from being bursted down instantly and allows him to safely dive enemy turrets or initiate chaotic clashes without fear.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Immortal: Revives 2.5s after death, gaining 16% Max HP and a 220-1200 shield (scales with level) that lasts 3s (210s cooldown).

Adapting the build

No build survives every draft. These are the situations where the order above should change.

Against mobile enemy compositions that easily kite Argus

Prioritize rushing Corrosion Scythe right after Swift Boots. The continuous slowing effect applied by Basic Attacks and Meteoric Sword prevents slippery targets from escaping. This allows Argus to stay on top of enemies along the Cursed Trail, maximizing his Malice Energy generation for Warmonger and ensuring full damage conversion during Eternal Evil.

When facing tanky frontline heroes stacking high HP

Prioritize building Demon Hunter Sword immediately after Corrosion Scythe. The bonus current HP damage on Basic Attacks, combined with Warmonger's intrinsic armor penetration and doubled energy gain on Cursed targets from Meteoric Sword, allows Argus to slice through durable EXP laners and secure vital sustain during his Eternal Evil duration.

When targeted by aggressive burst damage before Ultimate can be activated

Consider completing Immortality sooner as a defensive buffer. If the enemy team possesses heavy burst that prevents you from casting Eternal Evil in time, resurrecting provides a guaranteed window to pop your ultimate, cleanse debuffs, fill Malice Energy via Warmonger, and heal back to full health by attacking nearby targets.
