How to itemise Alice and, more importantly, why each item earns its slot.

Overview

Why this build works on Alice

Alice relies on her continuous drain from Blood Ode, which consumes mana while restoring her health based on damage dealt to nearby enemies. Because Blood Ode requires immense sustain and constant mana upkeep, her build prioritizes mana sustain, durability, and movement control over pure glass-cannon burst. Her Blood Ancestry passive continuously regenerates mana and scales her healing received as she levels up, making tanky sustain items and slow synergy crucial. By combining mana recovery, percentage damage, and healing amplification, Alice transforms from a fragile mid-lane mage into an unkillable frontline disruptor who teleports in with Flowing Blood, immobilizes with Blood Awe, and drains entire enemy teams.

Demon Boots

Early

Mana management is Alice's primary early game challenge because casting Blood Ode rapidly depletes her mana reserve. Demon Boots solve this issue by restoring mana whenever she slays or assists in eliminating enemy minions. This allows Alice to efficiently clear minion waves using Flowing Blood and remain in lane longer without returning to base, perfectly complementing her Blood Ancestry passive while building toward her core items.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Mysticism: Getting a kill or assist on an enemy Minion will restore 4% Mana. (An assist occurs when a Minion dies within 2s after taking damage from the hero.)

Clock of Destiny offers essential scaling health and magic power over time through its passive stacking effect. For Alice, the extra health enhances her frontline durability during aggressive dives, while the additional magic damage boosts the damage and healing scaling on Blood Ode. Purchasing this early allows her to accumulate stacks quickly, ensuring she becomes tankier and hits harder during critical early skirmishes around map objectives.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Time: Gains 20 extra Max HP and 4 extra Magic Power every 20s, capped at 15 stacks.

Because Blood Ode deals continuous damage every fraction of a second to surrounding enemies, it rapidly applies and maintains the stacking slow effect from Ice Queen Wand. This prevents targets from escaping her aura. Once built, Alice can teleport onto targets with Flowing Blood, lock them down using Blood Awe, and stick to them endlessly while constantly reducing her skill cooldowns through her ultimate's persistent ticks.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Ice Bound: When a skill deals damage to an enemy hero, it will also slow them by 10% for 2s (stacks up to 3 times). This effect has a 1s cooldown.

Glowing Wand adds a maximum health percentage burn to all of Alice's magic damage. Since Blood Ode hits repeatedly in an area around her, it applies this burn across multiple enemies simultaneously, complementing the health-based damage of Blood Awe to melt durable tanks. Once completed, Alice's overall damage output increases significantly during prolonged team fights, turning her draining aura into a lethal threat against tanky team compositions.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Scorch: Burn targets for 3s, dealing Magic Damage equal to 1.5% of the target's Max HP per second.

Oracle

Late

Oracle amplifies all incoming healing and shield effects, which directly boosts the continuous health recovery Alice receives from Blood Ode. This synergizes exceptionally well with her Blood Ancestry passive, which inherently increases her healing received as she levels up. Acquiring Oracle makes Alice extraordinarily difficult to eliminate during late-game skirmishes, enabling her to comfortably absorb enemy focus fire while draining health in the center of fights.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Bless: Received Shield and HP Regen effects are increased by 30%.

Dominance Ice

Situational

When facing dangerous physical threats or high attack speed marksmen, Dominance Ice provides critical physical durability while lowering the attack speed of nearby enemies. Because Alice must position herself close to enemies to maximize Blood Ode and Blood Awe, the item's aura naturally affects surrounding foes. It grants her the defensive buffer needed to survive physical burst and remain standing during long engagements.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Arctic Cold: Reduces the Attack Speed of nearby enemy heroes to 70% of normal.

Adapting the build

No build survives every draft. These are the situations where the order above should change.

Against heavy physical damage threats or attack speed focused carries

Prioritize Dominance Ice right after your core magic items. Because Alice must fight in close proximity to unleash Blood Ode and lock down targets with Blood Awe, reducing nearby enemy attack speed and gaining physical defense helps her withstand physical burst before her health drain can fully sustain her through the fight.

When mobile enemy heroes continuously escape your draining ultimate aura

Purchase Ice Queen Wand immediately following Clock of Destiny. The continuous slowing effect triggered by Blood Ode prevents enemies from running out of range. This allows Alice to easily immobilize them with Blood Awe while repeatedly triggering her ultimate's cooldown reduction effect on her abilities as she sticks to her targets.

When facing heavy focus fire where maximum frontline survival is required

Build Oracle earlier in your item progression. Boosting your received healing with Oracle directly multiplies the health drain from Blood Ode while pairing with the passive healing amplification from Blood Ancestry. This combination gives Alice the extreme survivability needed to dive deep into team fights around the Lord or Turtle.
