How to itemise Gusion and, more importantly, why each item earns its slot.

Overview

Why this build works on Gusion

Gusion relies on rapidly chaining his daggers through Sword Spike and Shadowblade Slaughter, resetting them with Incandescence to burst down priority targets. Because his kit requires landing basic attacks between or after skill casts to activate Dagger Specialist for bonus damage and healing, this build focuses on maximizing his magic scaling, burst potential, and true damage output. Gusion is vulnerable when his skill sequence is on cooldown after going all-in. This build solves his reliance on continuous skill rotations by providing cooldown reduction, sustained spell vamp through consecutive magic hits, dynamic magic penetration against tanky comps, and instant cooldown resets upon securing eliminations, ensuring he can continuously execute squishy targets.

Ice Hunter's Magic Boots

Early

Mobility and faster skill availability are essential during early jungle rotations. Buying Ice Hunter's Magic Boots allows Gusion to clear jungle camps quickly using Shadowblade Slaughter while enhancing his Retribution spell against creeps. The initial reduction in cooldowns allows Gusion to cast Sword Spike more frequently, giving him the quick movement and early ganking power needed to snowball lanes before enemies build magic defense.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Hunter: After dealing damage to a Creep, deal 25<2|lv 3> + True Damage to the target over 3s (damage is increased by 100% for non-Marksmen heroes).

Starlium Scythe synergizes seamlessly with Dagger Specialist. After throwing daggers with Shadowblade Slaughter or resetting abilities with Incandescence, Gusion must weave basic attacks into his combo. This item empowers those basic attacks with massive bonus true damage and a sudden boost in movement speed. It transforms his skill sequence into a lethal combination, guaranteeing that even high-defense targets take massive true damage whenever he lunges forward with Sword Spike.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Crisis: Within 3s after casting a skill, the caster's next Basic Attack will deal additional True Damage equal to 100 plus 100% Magic Power and briefly grant 10% Movement Speed. This effect has a 1.5s cooldown.

Chaining multiple daggers with Shadowblade Slaughter rapidly strikes enemies, which immediately stacks the bonus magic power and magic damage amplification from Concentrated Energy. Because Gusion must dive directly into enemy lines using Incandescence, the extra magic damage conversion and passive sustain enhance his overall survivability. Once completed, Gusion can safely execute full combo resets while continually healing from both his Dagger Specialist passive and continuous magic damage output.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Recharge: Increases Magic Power by 5 after dealing Magic Damage (this effect stacks up to 6 times and can only gain 1 stack every 0.4s). When reaching full stacks, increases Magic Damage by 12% for 3s.

As enemies build durability, Gusion needs a massive spike in raw offensive power to ensure his ten-dagger ultimate combination secures instant kills. Holy Crystal massively boosts his overall magic power, scaling higher as his level increases. This directly amplifies the magic scaling on every single dagger thrown and recalled, as well as the self-healing provided by Dagger Specialist, allowing Gusion to delete squishy heroes instantly.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Mystery: Gains 21%-35% extra Magic Power (scales with level).

Divine Glaive

Situational

Late in the game, opponents often stack magic defense items to survive Gusion's burst. Divine Glaive counters this by converting the target's magic defense into additional magic penetration. When Gusion dives a marked target with Sword Spike and recalls ten daggers using Incandescence, Divine Glaive ensures that his magic damage pierces straight through heavy defensive stats, preventing tanks and bruisers from walling off his burst combinations.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Spellbreaker: When attacking an enemy, gains 0.1% extra Magic Penetration for each point of the enemy's Magic Defense, capped at 20%.

Fleeting Time

Situational

Gusion is heavily reliant on Incandescence to reset his skill cooldowns and double his dagger count. Fleeting Time grants significant ultimate cooldown reduction whenever Gusion secures a kill or assist. Once completed, winning a teamfight or landing a pickoff instantly reduces the cooldown of Incandescence, allowing Gusion to immediately jump to the next target or escape dangerous situations without waiting for long skill downtime.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Timestream: Hero kills or assists reduce the Ultimate's current cooldown by 30%.

Adapting the build

No build survives every draft. These are the situations where the order above should change.

When enemies begin stacking heavy magic defense early

Prioritize Divine Glaive immediately after Starlium Scythe instead of waiting for late game options. This adjustment allows Gusion to pierce directly through early defensive magic resistance purchases, ensuring his ten-dagger combination with Incandescence retains its high execution pressure against tanky frontline heroes and prevents his burst potential from falling off early.

When fast-paced teamfights require back-to-back ultimate casts

Delay Holy Crystal and rush Fleeting Time earlier right after completing Concentrated Energy. Securing quick eliminations or assists in chaotic teamfights will rapidly reset Incandescence, allowing Gusion to perform continuous dagger resets, re-engage on fleeing targets immediately, and maintain relentless mobility across prolonged multi-target skirmishes.
