How to itemise Freya and, more importantly, why each item earns its slot.

Overview

Why this build works on Freya

Freya relies on seamlessly weaving skills and basic attacks to continuously refresh her attack speed through Power of Einherjar and consume Sacred Orb stacks via Spirit Combo. Because she thrives in extended close-quarters brawls, her main challenge is sustaining her health and maintaining raw damage output while diving enemies with Leap of Faith and Valkyrie Descent. This build solves her need for sustained combat survivability, continuous mana upkeep, and explosive critical scaling. By combining health regeneration, true damage procs, and immense physical damage, Freya can comfortably initiate teamfights with Valkyrie Descent, spam her skill combo, and survive long enough to crush target backlines without sacrificing defensive stability.

Item by item

Equipping Warrior Boots early provides necessary physical defense during laning trades in the EXP Lane. As Freya engages with Leap of Faith, taking early physical damage from enemy laners is inevitable. The defensive stacks gained from taking damage allow her to sustain through minion aggression and skill trades while setting up early kills. It ensures she survives aggressive early skirmishes before her core damage items are fully complete.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Valor: Gain 4 extra Physical Defense for 3s when taking Physical Damage, up to 20.

War Axe

Core

War Axe synergizes perfectly with Freya's rapid attack tempo from Power of Einherjar and constant skill spams with Spirit Combo. As she maintains prolonged combat, this item continuously stacks extra physical attack and spell vamp, boosting her sustain. Upon reaching maximum stacks, the added true damage enhances her ability to shred durable opponents. Once completed, Freya turns into a formidable early-to-mid game duelist who heals as she continuously fights.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Fighting Spirit: Dealing damage grants 12 extra Physical Attack and 2% extra Spell Vamp per second for 4s, up to 6 stacks. Deal 10% extra True Damage according to Base Damage at full stacks.####[C8This effect is reduced to 50% for Marksmen, Mages, and Supports.]

Freya frequently casts Spirit Combo to weave high-speed basic attacks using Sacred Orb stacks. Endless Battle guarantees that after every skill activation, her following attack unleashes true damage. This seamlessly converts her high skill frequency into unmitigated burst damage. The added sustain and passive true damage allow her to melt bulky enemies during her Valkyrie Descent transformation, vastly elevating her mid-game power spike and single-target elimination capability.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Divine Justice: After casting a skill, the next Basic Attack within 3s deals 60% Physical Attack as extra True Damage (1.5s cooldown).

Haas' Claws amplifies Freya's Valkyrie Descent state, where her ranged splash basic attacks can trigger massive critical strikes. The attack speed bonus gained from critical hits stacks directly with her passive, Power of Einherjar, letting her strike with blinding speed. The lifesteal generated from her empowered basic attacks provides exceptional combat healing, allowing Freya to sustain her health pool while diving into dense enemy formations during major teamfights.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Frenzy: Critical strikes grant 20% Attack Speed for 2s.

Blade of Despair escalates Freya's physical damage to terrifying levels in late-game engagements. When using Leap of Faith to pull low-health targets or smashing them airborne on the third cast of Spirit Combo, the physical attack bonus triggers against weakened enemies. This allows Freya to quickly execute priority squishy targets before they can react, transforming her from a sustained brawler into a lethal backline assassin.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Despair: Dealing damage to non-Minion enemies below 50% HP increases Physical Attack by 25% for 2s (takes effect before the damage is dealt).

As a primary initiator who leaps into teamfights using Leap of Faith and Valkyrie Descent, Freya often absorbs the enemy team's focused abilities. Immortality gives her a crucial safety net, resurrecting her with a shield after taking fatal damage. This second chance enables her to immediately cast Spirit Combo again, generating Sacred Orb stacks and turning the tide of fight through rapid lifesteal and shield refreshes.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Immortal: Revives 2.5s after death, gaining 16% Max HP and a 220-1200 shield (scales with level) that lasts 3s (210s cooldown).

Adapting the build

No build survives every draft. These are the situations where the order above should change.

Against high physical burst damage in the early laning phase

Complete Warrior Boots immediately before finishing War Axe. This ensures Freya survives early trading against aggressive physical EXP laners, allowing her to safely farm Sacred Orb stacks and trade hits using Spirit Combo without being forced out of lane early or killed during aggressive level-two dive attempts.

When facing heavy tank lineups stacking physical defense

Prioritize Endless Battle right after War Axe over Haas' Claws. The true damage from Divine Justice ignores armor, enabling Freya to penetrate high-defense targets when weaving basic attacks between Spirit Combo casts, ensuring her Valkyrie Descent splash attacks retain threat against resilient frontline champions.
