How to itemise Angela and, more importantly, why each item earns its slot.

Overview

Why this build works on Angela

Angela relies heavily on spamming Love Waves to heal allies and apply Lover's Mark stacks while using Heartguard to shield and attach to core teammates across the map. However, her heavy mana consumption during roaming and the long cooldown on Heartguard limit her presence in teamfights. This build addresses her mana sustain, reduces Heartguard's downtime, and enhances her utility. By pairing movement speed from Smart Heart with continuous slows from Ice Queen Wand and Puppet-on-a-String, Angela permanently disables targets. Additionally, boosting her shield output and healing transforms her from a simple support into an unstoppable shield-providing enabler for aggressive dive compositions.

Item by item

Demon Boots - Favor

Early

Angela continuously drains her mana pool early in the game by spamming Love Waves to keep laning allies healthy and clear minion waves. Equipping Demon Boots - Favor solves her resource scarcity immediately, ensuring she stays active on the map without frequent recalls. Furthermore, the Favor passive synergizes directly with Love Waves and Heartguard, delivering extra burst healing to low-health teammates whenever she casts her supportive skills during early skirmishes.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Passive - Favor: Success

Heartguard defines Angela's entire playstyle, allowing her to shield and attach to allies anywhere on the battlefield. Fleeting Time is critical because its Timestream passive significantly refunds her ultimate's remaining cooldown whenever she secures kills or assists. Since attaching to an initiator guarantees rapid assists through Love Waves and Puppet-on-a-String, this item enables Angela to cast Heartguard repeatedly in rapid succession during frequent mid-game teamfights.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Timestream: Hero kills or assists reduce the Ultimate's current cooldown by 30%.

This item turns Angela into a supreme crowd control threat by stacking slows on top of her kit. Love Waves already applies a slow per stack of Lover's Mark, and Puppet-on-a-String gradually slows targets before immobilizing them. Ice Queen Wand's Ice Bound passive adds an additional slow whenever her skills deal damage. This makes escaping Puppet-on-a-String virtually impossible for enemies, while allowing her to constantly catch fleeing opponents for her attached ally.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Ice Bound: When a skill deals damage to an enemy hero, it will also slow them by 10% for 2s (stacks up to 3 times). This effect has a 1s cooldown.

Necklace of Durance

Situational

While roaming, Angela often participates in skirmishes where leveling up provides vital stat spikes. Necklace of Durance features the Gift passive, which instantly restores HP and Mana upon leveling up, keeping Angela sustained during extended teamfights without having to break her attachment from Heartguard. The extra Magic Power also amplifies the scaling on Love Waves healing, Puppet-on-a-String damage, and the massive shield provided by Heartguard.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Gift: Regenerates 20% Max HP and Mana over 2s after leveling up.

Oracle

Late

As the match reaches late-game skirmishes, Angela needs durability to survive stray area-of-effect damage while channelling Heartguard. Oracle's Bless passive directly increases all received Shield and HP Regen effects. When attached to an ally, this item significantly boosts the healing output of Love Waves and enhances her defensive capabilities. It ensures that both Angela and her attached host sustain through high burst damage during critical end-game clashes.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Bless: Received Shield and HP Regen effects are increased by 30%.

When enemies feature high attack speed physical carries or aggressive lifesteal fighters, Angela needs defensive utility beyond pure magic power. Dominance Ice provides crucial physical defense while its Arctic Cold passive passively reduces the attack speed of nearby enemy heroes. This neutralizes incoming physical threats that try to focus Angela before she can finish channeling Heartguard, while also protecting her host target during close-quarters teamfights around objectives.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Arctic Cold: Reduces the Attack Speed of nearby enemy heroes to 70% of normal.

Adapting the build

No build survives every draft. These are the situations where the order above should change.

Against aggressive physical dive compositions

Prioritize purchasing Dominance Ice earlier in your build path, right after your core mobility and ultimate cooldown items. The added physical durability keeps Angela alive while channeling Heartguard under pressure, and its Arctic Cold passive suppresses the attack speed of physical assassins diving you or your attached partner near objectives like the Turtle.

When your team needs relentless ultimate uptime

Rush Fleeting Time immediately after finishing Demon Boots - Favor. Securing assists with Love Waves quickly triggers the Timestream passive, allowing you to cast Heartguard in almost every single engagement. This constant global presence forces enemies to respect your attached host's aggressiveness across the entire map during the early to mid game transition.

Against slippery mobile enemies

Fast-track Ice Queen Wand right after Fleeting Time. The additional slow from Ice Bound combines with the slow from Lover's Mark stacks on Love Waves, making it nearly impossible for high-mobility heroes to break the tether of Puppet-on-a-String before the immobilization triggers.
