How to itemise Aldous and, more importantly, why each item earns its slot.

Overview

Why this build works on Aldous

Aldous relies heavily on scaling his Contract: Soul Steal stacks to deal massive single-hit damage, but his early game is vulnerable while farming lane minion waves. This build addresses his core need to survive early skirmishes, maintain movement speed to chase, and convert his stacked damage into true sustain and burst. Since Contract: Soul Steal enhances his Basic Attack, cooldown reduction and true damage procs directly elevate his offensive threat, while Contract: Explosion grants crucial damage reduction that scales alongside defensive items. By pairing survivability with cooldown reduction, physical attack, and movement speed, Aldous transforms from a fragile late-game scaler into an unstoppable global initiator through Contract: Chase Fate.

Item by item

Tough Boots

Early

Tough Boots provides essential control duration reduction and magic defense during the laning phase. Aldous is extremely vulnerable to crowd control when trying to farm Contract: Soul Steal stacks on minion waves. By lessening crowd control and slow effects, he can safely maneuver near enemy minions, activate Contract: Explosion to absorb incoming poke, and escape ganks or secure last hits without getting locked down prematurely by lane opponents.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Fortitude: CC and Slow Duration reduced by 30%

Endless Battle is the primary offensive catalyst for Aldous. Because Contract: Soul Steal enhances his next Basic Attack on a short cooldown, it constantly triggers the extra true damage passive. The added spell vamp and cooldown reduction keep him healthy while farming, while the movement speed buff helps him stick to targets after landing with Contract: Chase Fate. Once completed, his single-punch burst potential and lane sustain increase dramatically.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Divine Justice: After casting a skill, the next Basic Attack within 3s deals 60% Physical Attack as extra True Damage (1.5s cooldown).

War Axe

Core

War Axe synergizes with prolonged skirmishes as Aldous stacks his abilities. Dealing damage grants ramping physical attack and spell vamp, alongside extra true damage at maximum stacks. This item amplifies the sustain from Contract: Transform shield procs and turns extended fights in his favor. With War Axe, Aldous becomes significantly harder to take down during teamfights, turning his enhanced Contract: Soul Steal strikes into devastating, self-healing attacks.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Fighting Spirit: Dealing damage grants 12 extra Physical Attack and 2% extra Spell Vamp per second for 4s, up to 6 stacks. Deal 10% extra True Damage according to Base Damage at full stacks.####[C8This effect is reduced to 50% for Marksmen, Mages, and Supports.]

Brute Force Breastplate grants vital durability and extra movement speed whenever Aldous deals damage. The extra control duration reduction at full stacks stacks nicely with Tough Boots, rendering him almost immune to long disables. This durability enables him to freely cast Contract: Explosion in the middle of enemy teams, reducing incoming damage while maintaining high mobility to land empowered Contract: Soul Steal hits on priority targets.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Brute Force: Each second after dealing damage, gain 6 extra Physical Attack and Magic Power and 2% extra Movement Speed for 4s, up to 6 stacks. Gain 15% extra Control Duration Reduction at full stacks.

In the late game, enemies inevitably build physical defense to mitigate high physical damage. Malefic Roar counters this by scaling physical penetration against high-defense targets. This ensures that the massive damage accumulated from Contract: Soul Steal stacks bypasses enemy armor. Equipping this item allows Aldous to easily execute tanky frontline heroes or slice through squishy targets protected by defensive items late in the match.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Armor Buster: When attacking an enemy, gains 0.125% extra Physical Penetration for each point of the enemy's Physical Defense, capped at 40%.

Immortality gives Aldous a second chance in late-game teamfights. After diving into the enemy backline using Contract: Chase Fate, he often draws maximum focus from enemy abilities. Reviving with a fresh shield gives him enough time to reset his Contract: Soul Steal cooldown, cast Contract: Explosion for damage reduction, and trigger Contract: Transform's shield to turn a dangerous dive into a game-winning teamfight victory.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Immortal: Revives 2.5s after death, gaining 16% Max HP and a 220-1200 shield (scales with level) that lasts 3s (210s cooldown).

Adapting the build

No build survives every draft. These are the situations where the order above should change.

Against heavy crowd control enemy compositions

Prioritize completing Tough Boots and rushed Brute Force Breastplate right after your core offensive item. The combined control duration reduction prevents enemies from chaining stuns on you, allowing you to cast Contract: Explosion for damage reduction and successfully escape or execute targets with Contract: Soul Steal during chaotic teamfights.

When enemy tanks stack high physical defense early

Delay War Axe and build Malefic Roar immediately after Endless Battle. This adjustment ensures that your Contract: Soul Steal stacks deal piercing damage through high armor targets, keeping your lane pressure high and enabling you to burst down defensive frontliners when using Contract: Chase Fate to join skirmishes across the map.

Item recommendations come from the game's own hero data. The explanations are AI-generated from Aldous's ability kit and the items' in-game passives, and are checked automatically against the item list — they never introduce an item the game does not recommend for this hero.
